ड्राइंग बनाने के लिए मानक या अर्द्ध स्वचालित पेंसिल का प्रयोग करना चाहिए घटिया किस्म की पेंसिल एक समान मोटाई व शेड की रेखाएं नहीं खींच पाती है तथा कार्य करते समय बार-बार टूट जाती हैं इसलिए अच्छे किस्म की ही पेंसिल की कार्य में लेनी चाहिए पेंसिल लीड ग्रेफाइड तथा केओलाइन मिट्टी से बनाई जाती है जितना अधिक केओलाइन मात्रा होगी पेंसिल उतना ही कठोर होगा यह विभिन्न ग्रेड में उपलब्ध होती है आजकल मैकेनिकल ऑटोमेटिक पेंसिल/क्लच 0.3, 0.5, 0.7 या 0.9 मिलीमीटर व्यास वाली लीड प्रयोग की जाती है
इंजीनियरिंग ड्राइंग बनाने की शुरुआत H या 2H पेंसिल से बहुत हल्के हाथ से करते हैं जिससे जो रेखा कार्य में ना आए तो उसे रबड़ द्वार आसानी से मिटाया जा सके ड्राइंग फाइनल करने के लिए 3H या 4H अक्षर लिखने के लिए 3H व फ्री हैंड स्केचिंग के लिए HB ग्रेड की पेंसिल का उपयोग में लेना चाहिए
Standard or semi-automatic pencil should be used for drawing drawing. Poor quality pencils are not able to draw lines of uniform thickness and shade and break repeatedly while working, so only good quality pencils should be used. Lead is made from graphite and kaolin clay, the higher the amount of kaolin, the harder the pencil, it is available in various grades, nowadays mechanical automatic pencils/clutches 0.3, 0.5, 0.7 or 0.9 mm in diameter lead are used.
Beginning to make engineering drawing with H or 2H pencil with very light hand so that the line which is not useful can be erased easily by eraser to finish the drawing 3H or 4H to write the letter 3H and free hand sketching. HB grade pencil should be used for
- 2H – Object Line, Center Line, Break Line etc.
- H – Dimensioning, Arrow Heads, Section Lines, Lettering, Sketching, Extension Line, Circles, Arc, etc.
- HB – Writing Notes on sketch Book or Rough Work etc.
- 4B to 7B – For Artistic Sketching and shading
